“Cookery Fundays” is a collection of savoury and sweet dishes that are easy and fun to make.
The Cookery Fundays programme began in Sacred Heart SNS, Killinarden, Tallaght, with the printing of a cookbook that contains 26 delicious recipes. The programme and cookbook were sponsored by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Rachel Allen launched the cookbook in 2022.
Following the programme's success, the Cookery Fundays website was launched to allow wider access to schools and children nationwide.
Each recipe uses easy-to-source ingredients and requires minimum equipment. The instructions are easy to follow, and the finished dishes are delicious!
Each recipe on the website includes a video with students demonstrating how to prepare and to cook the dishes.
June 2026 Update
Thanks to the incredible and ongoing support of #Amazonincommunities, our Cookery Fundays at Sacred Heart Killinarden is going from strength to strength — and the excitement in our kitchen is palpable!
From third to sixth class, our students are rolling up their sleeves and discovering the joy of cooking in a now fully equipped, buzzing kitchen. Thursday mornings have become something truly special, with our Family Cookery Fundays bringing parents, grandparents aunties ,older sisters and children together around food in the most wonderful way. Demand for our afterschool Cookery Fundays Club remains sky-high — always booked out well in advance — which tells its own story about how much this means to our community.
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: Cookery Fundays has been accepted into the Department of Education’s summer course programme for primary school teachers — a first for us, and a proud milestone. Watch this space too, as we’ll be printing an updated Cookery Fundays cookbook in the coming months, packed with even more recipes and essential nutritional guidance.
None of this would be possible without #Amazonincommunities and for that we are truly, deeply grateful. Thank you!
